When someone asks me what my job is, I tell them I color. That always gets a chuckle. Forever, I have loved to draw. I majored in Education at the University of Richmond. Guess that “starving artist” idea wasn’t very appealing. I had the best bulletin boards in the school. But no art training. Oh well.
But as spirit goes, the passion for drawing seemed to grow. I just kept drawing. It was a form of personal entertainment. I began to draw cards for friends, make baby announcements, and then became the local charity invitation girl. Nana Banana Classics hired me to illustrate a HUGE coloring book of Pinocchio. I loved it.
My buddy suggested I design some invitations and stationery to sell. It didn’t take much to entice me. I called my sister, Alison, and asked if she was interested in helping me. She told me that no one named Alison lived there anymore. Only kidding…….
Here we are, three years later and having a blast. It is a fun, celebratory business that deals with sharing happy memories. We are always designing new paper and coming up with fun new gift items. Please visit us and remember to “SEND A HUG”!

Alison
Alison is working on becoming a master knitter. She is also a master with numbers. It makes no sense at all to me how these two traits can be in the same person. She is unbelievable with textiles and will spend hours looking for just the right button. If she buys one more skein of yarn, her husband will have to move out of the house for lack of room.
She was super and offered to take care of all the finances for Bear Hug Designs. (Really a pity for me since I just love numbers so much! HA!) Thank heavens she was willing to save me. At least one of us is focused and keeps good records.
Since Alison lives in Columbia, SC and I live in Omaha, NE it is also a wonderful way for us to communicate on a daily basis. Our dad worked at Bowaters Paper Company when we were growing up. Who knows, maybe paper is in our blood.
